Credit for Military Experience
Florida Community College students may request
an evaluation of military experience by submitting to any Enrollment
Service Office the appropriate American
Council on Education (ACE) documents. The documents that are
acceptable for evaluation of military service education and training
are as follows:
Credit for such educational experiences will
be granted in accordance with the recommendations of ACE when
applicable to the student's program of study.
These forms shall be forwarded to Military
Education Institute (MEI), Urban Resource Center by campus
mail.
Currently, there is no charge for evaluation
of military experience.
This section outlines the policies and
procedures for awarding college credit for military experience,
education and/or training.
- The designated credit evaluator in Florida
Community College's Military
Education Institute (MEI) will review the content of the
appropriate document as outlined above and compare the ACE
recommended credits to the ourcourse dictionary to determine
course equivalencies. In most cases, the credit recommendations
on the ACE
transcripts will mirror the recommendations given in ACE's
Guide to the Evaluation of Educational Experiences in the Armed
Forces document. The credit evaluator may choose to award
more or less credit than is recommended by this Guide based
on his or her evaluation of the course content and competencies.
- The MEI
designated credit evaluator will complete the process of awarding
military credit by entering the data into the Student Management
System (ORION) and then forwarding the appropriate documents
to the Enrollment Service Office at the Martin Center for imaging.
The appropriate ACE
documentation meets Southern
Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) requirements
for the award of credit for military experience.
- The College Registrar and the Executive
Director of Military Programs and Corporate College will supervise
the actions of the MEI
designated credit evaluator and ensure that the appropriate
documents are forwarded to the Registrar's Office.
- The evaluated ACE
transcripts will be maintained in the Registrar's Office.
- Prior to credit being awarded, the student
must have met all entrance
requirements, selected a program
of study, and paid any required fees.
- To be awarded a degree from Florida Community
College, students must complete at least 25 percent of their
degree coursework at Florida Community College. Additional credits
may be transfer credit.
- Upon completion of these requirements and
the receipt of the appropriate document, the evaluation process
will commence.
- Information on credit available for military
experience will be made available to counselors and advisers.
The opportunity to receive credit for military experience will
be publicized in program fact sheets, the College Catalog, and
other materials available to workforce deans, advisers, counselors,
and students.
- Credit awarded under this program will be
tracked and reported annually by the Registrar's Office and
the MEI.
