
Portfolio Development for Prior Learning
Description
The portfolio is the written documentation that verifies college-level learning gained through life and work experiences. Significant learning can be from work, volunteer experiences, non-credit courses and seminars, travel, or hobbies. Credit will be awarded based on college-level competencies documented and demonstrated by the portfolio. Students must take the Portfolio Development for Prior Learning course (SLS 1371) in order to submit a portfolio. A separate portfolio must be submitted for each course for which the student is requesting credit. Florida Community College reserves the right to delay recording transfer credits on the student's permanent record (transcript) until the student has successfully completed college-level course work at Florida Community College at Jacksonville , satisfied Florida Community College at Jacksonville residency requirements, and/or provided appropriate documentation or verification of student competencies.
Fees
Portfolio Course, SLS 1371: Students will earn one elective credit for completing the SLS 1371 course with the grade of C or better. Current college credit tuition will be charged for the one credit hour class.
Portfolio: Students must submit $70 per portfolio to be evaluated.
Grade and Award of Credit
Portfolio Course, SLS 1371: A grade of A, B, C, D or F will be awarded for the portfolio course.
Portfolio : If college credit is awarded for the submitted portfolio, a grade of P (pass) will be awarded for the portfolio and will not be counted in the GPA. If no credit is awarded, no grade will be given. There will be no academic penalty when no grade is given. Letter grades will not be awarded. Not all portfolios evaluated are approved for credit. The decision of the instructor is final. Documentation for award of credit will be submitted to the Florida Community College Record's Office.
Enrollment Procedure
To register for the portfolio class, the student should contact the Accelerated College Office at 904.632.5044. Information will be provided to the student regarding the program. The advisor will determine if college credit can realistically be earned, and if credit can realistically be earned, the student will be enrolled in the class.

Prior to credit being awarded, the student must have met all entrance requirements, selected a program of study, and paid any required fees.
