In cooperation with the American Payroll Association, Florida Community College presents the PayTrain College & University program for payroll professionals. Comprised of two professional development courses, PayTrain Fundamentals and PayTrain Mastery, this program is ideal for seasoned professionals interested in advancing their careers or sitting for a certification exam, as well as for new hires seeking an understanding of the industry.

PayTrain Fundamentals
This course teaches essential payroll calculations and applications to provide the payroll professional with the fundamental knowledge and skills required to maintain payroll compliance and prevent costly penalties. This course is ideal for FPC certification, and it is a prerequisite for the PayTrain Mastery course. Successful completion prepares you for an entry-level payroll administrator position. This course can be applied toward 30 APA recertification hours.

PayTrain Mastery
This comprehensive course provides a solid understanding of advanced payroll topics necessary for payroll managers and supervisors. It is ideal for experienced payroll professionals seeking compliance training, professional development or CPP certification preparation. Successful completion prepares you for advancement to supervisory and managerial positions. This course can be applied toward 36 APA recertification hours. Prerequisite course: PayTrain Fundamentals.

Joyce Barrentine, a Certified Payroll Professional since 1987, is the former Time and Attendance Supervisor for Vistakon. She has been a member of the American Payroll Association Hotline Referral Service and has sat on the FPC Certification Board. Joyce served as a past president of the APA Jacksonville Chapter and received the APA Meritorious Service Award from Congress.
APA Payroll Certification
This is the certification you want to quantify your knowledge, your experience and your credibility when you interface with upper management, human resources, benefits, tax reporting, information services and other management functions within and outside your organization.
If you are in the early stages of your career in the payroll profession, or you are a sales professional, client service worker, or payroll systems analyst or engineer, this certification will validated your knowledge to your colleagues, clients, customers, managers and supervisors.

If you are pursuing a college degree, you may qualify to receive college credit with your CPP or FPC certification. The American Council on Education (ACE) recommends awarding up to 15 semester hours to those obtaining FPC or CPP designation. Credit hours can be applied to bachelor and/or associate degree programs for payroll accounting, taxation, general management, principles of accounting, business law, computer information systems, and business mathematics courses.

Membership Application
Prior to registering, all new and prospective students must complete the Florida Community College Membership Application. A one-time $15 membership fee will be assessed when you pay your course fee.
Refund/Cancellation Policy
Course cancellation may result if enrollment minimums are not met. In the event of cancellation, students will be notified 24 hours prior to the class starting date and will receive a full refund. Students may withdraw with a refund within 5 days of the class starting date, provided textbooks and materials are returned in original, unopened packages.
